DETOX
Started in the
late 1980's, the DEYAS Youth Detox is the largest detoxification
unit available strictly for youths between the ages of 12 and 21. A
co-ed facility with 6 beds allows clients to remain for 3 to 7 days
in a holistic and supportive environment. As this is a non-medical
detox, all clients are first taken to see a medical professional
prior to being admitted to ensure a safe and effective
detoxification process. With one caregiver for every 3 clients on
staff 24 hours a day and the clients are under constant supervision
which allows the development of trusting and long term
relationships.
During the detox process the clients work with their caregivers and the youth
worker to help develop an aftercare plan which can involve many
different options including, but not limited to, treatment centres,
recovery houses, transitional housing, permanent housing and income
assistance. However because so many barriers can exist for the
clients, the devotion of the staff becomes paramount in helping the
youth overcome their addiction and lifestyle issues through primary
treatment and after-care. The staff also devotes time working with
and developing professional and lasting relationships with other
area service providers to facilitate client access.
Clients are
accepted from all over the province through the Vancouver Coastal
Health Authority's Access One program and funding for this program
is provided by VCHA.
