COMMUNITY PICK-UP

The DEYAS Community Pick up program is operated to help keep the streets of Vancouver free of used hypodermic needles. With 28 safe disposal boxes in and around the Downtown Eastside as well as pick ups from VCHA funded agencies, the Pick Up program helps keep the streets safer by removing possibly infected syringes and giving I.V. drug users many disposal locations. The program also, on occasion, will respond to calls from the public when used syringes are found in parks, school grounds and business. This particular service however, is usually a one time response as the DEYAS staff will educate the caller about proper needle disposal and where to purchase the required disposal and storage materials.

As part of the Four Pillars Drug Strategy and the BC Harm Reduction programs our goal is to help provide safer streets for the homeless, the user population and, of course, the public at large.
